Biographical Note
WORD WIZARD. Every writing assignment requires a personal touch, however there are principles and processes that recur in my work.
I start with intention. What does the author wish to say and how can this be conveyed to the reader? Then there are structural considerations about sections, paragraphs, bits that go with each other and how the whole thing starts and ends. At some stage I will consider how the title and subtitle encapsulate and focus the meaning of the work as a whole.
Draft documents can usually be improved by removal of irrelevant or repetitious material, so I do that. Conversely, I write or suggest additional material where more detail is required, and I can provide illustrative examples, anecdotes and stories that can be used to liven up the text.
Many years working in the theatre have refined my skills in textual analysis and development of plot, themes and characters.
Then comes detailed work in the form of corrections to errors of fact, expression, punctuation and spelling. I've worked with poetry and I pay close attention to choice of words, phrases, images, nuances, connotations, rhythm and emotional pitch.
I have completed large projects such as on-line instructional texts for corporate and government clients and I've ghost written or edited manuscripts for self publishing authors. I have a talent for assisting people to improve their writing on scientific, medical, travel, biography and a wide range of subjects.
Word Wizard is a despot in respect of excellence but also a negotiator, listening to what collaborators have to say and committed to bringing ideas and objectives sharply into focus.
