Biographical Note
Amongst other things, I have completed a 6-month contract with La Trobe University as project editor for their 2008 Handbooks. I was offered this position based on my 2006 experience with the La Trobe University Handbook where I took over the project editor's role when she became unavailable half-way through the process. In 2007 I managed the editorial process from the start to its conclusion, taking the copy to print. This included working closely with the Marketing Projects Officer and typesetting team at La Trobe University, managing a team of ten proofreaders and three editors to get all the files completed in a timely manner, indexing the handbook myself, and going through the repagination process with the typesetters. This was a large and challenging project where multiple academic authors were involved (over 100). I wrote the style sheet for this project and made a number of recommendations to the University regarding the publication process. I have proven beyond doubt both in my current and previous positions the ability to work independently, manage large, complex projects from beginning to completion, prioritise and work effectively and efficiently to deadlines. I can think quickly on my feet when required. I have the ability to look at the big picture and find solutions using my own initiative and experience. I am a flexible and proactive person as demonstrated by my previous roles, especially that of police officer. I have excellent interpersonal, written, oral, leadership and negotiation skills. I am able to communicate effectively with different kinds of people at different levels and in different ways. I have excellent initiative and am definitely team oriented. I am able to take direction as well as demonstrate my own initiative. All these skills were honed during my seven years as a police officer. I have had experience in publishing roles working collaboratively with content providers and authors.
