Biographical Note
Rebecca Hayter has excellent writing, editing, sub-editing and proofreading skills. These are founded on extensive experience in magazines and a solid base of tertiary qualifications: Bachelor of Arts degree, English major; Diploma in Short Story Writing; and Certificate in Journalism. Latin to School Certificate level has given her a meaningful relationship with grammar.

As editor of Boating New Zealand from 1998-2008, Rebecca gathered and coached a formidable pool of freelance writers. In 2006, Boating New Zealand won Magazine of the Year, Special Interest category, and Rebecca won Editor of the Year, Supreme Winner.

As a freelance journalist since 2008, Rebecca has written for many New Zealand publications including Boating New Zealand, NZ House and Garden, NBR magazine, The Shed and SkySport. She is Australasian correspondent for YachtingWorld (UK) and SupersailWorld (UK); other overseas publications which have published her work include Practical Boat Owner (USA) and Boat International (UK).

Although Rebecca is one of New Zealand’s best known yachting journalists, she enjoys writing in other fields. In the last two years, she has nearly finished building a plywood sailing dinghy, rekindled her love of tramping, embroidery and cooking, has become a trustee of the New Zealand Traditional Boatbuilding School, and is putting together an overseas travel adventure.

Writing remains her first love. Alongside her journalism career, Rebecca is working on her first novel as part of the Creative New Zealand mentoring programme, and on a collection of short stories. As a one-on-one tutor, she enjoys helping others develop their writing skills.
