Rebecca Hayter has excellent writing, editing, sub-editing and proofreading skills. These are founded on extensive experience in magazines and a solid base of tertiary qualifications: Bachelor of Arts degree Ė English major, Diploma in Short Story Writing and Certificate in Journalism. Latin to School Certificate level provided an excellent appreciation of grammar.
As editor of Boating New Zealand from 1998-2008, Rebecca gathered and coached a formidable pool of freelance writers. In 2006, Boating New Zealand won Magazine of the Year, Special Interest category, and Rebecca won Editor of the Year, Supreme Winner Overall.
Rebecca worked as a freelance journalist from 2008 to 2013, writing for numerous New Zealand publications including Boating New Zealand, NZ House and Garden, NBR magazine, The Shed, SkySport, and NZ Life and Leisure. She was Australasian correspondent for YachtingWorld (UK) and SupersailWorld (UK) and published articles in Practical Boat Owner (USA) and Boat International (UK). She edited NZ Marine News, producing a top quality publication representing New Zealandís highly regarded marine industry. During this time, Rebecca won four Journalist of the Year Awards in Special Interest, Lifestyle and Custom Publishing categories.
In 2009, she co-wrote What You Wish For Ė one manís guide to life, death and alternative therapies, her third book. Other interests include handcrafts, DIY, rural communities and tramping.
In 2013 Rebecca returned to Boating New Zealand and took the magazine back to award-winning status with 2014 Editor of the Year and Magazine of the Year in Special Interest, followed by a Highly Commended in Journalist of the Year, Special Interest in 2015.
In late 2015, Rebecca bought a lifestyle property in Takaka, New Zealand. Between growing fruit and vegetables on organic principles and battling gorse, Rebecca is working as a freelance journalist and writing her first novel and a collection of short stories.
