Biographical Note
Mike Hanley has been a business and finance journalist since 1994, when he launched International Risk Management magazine for Emap in the UK. Since 1998 he has been an independent writer specialising in business, management, risk management, re/insurance, corporate finance and economics, risk management, financial risk management and operational risk, corporate strategy, and management theory. His publications include CFO in Australia, Asia and Europe, Boss magazine in Australia and Asia, Insurance Day (Australia Correspondent), FT Mastering Risk Series, The ReviewWorldwide Reinsurance, Reuters, and the Melbourne Herald-Sun.He is publisher and part-owner of Australia China Connections magazine (www.chinaconnections.com.au), with a focus on Australia China trade issues.
A graduate of the London School of Economics and the London Business School, he worked with the LSE to launch its Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Regulation, and worked with the director of the LSE School of Management to develop its communications programme. He works closely with the communications teams of Swiss Re, Towers Perrin, Zurich Financial Services, and the Aon Corporation to help tailor messages about complex risk management products and services, write board level speeches, brochures, bylined articles and annual reports.Together with Adrian Monck, head of journalism at City University in London, Mike is co-author of Crunch Time: A Users Guide to the Twenty-first Century published by Allen & Unwin in Australia in August 2004, with the UK edition to be published in April 2007 by Icon Books. He also wrote What Matters: success and work-life balance with Daniel Petre, published by Jane Curry Publishing in September 2004.
