Biographical Note

1992-Present
Since 1992, Mike has worked as a freelance journalist and public relations consultant. He has done consultancy work for the Otago Chamber of  Commerce and Dunedin and Christchurch businesses in this role. He has also written advertising features for the Christchurch Press, and company profiles, press releases and speeches in this role.

Mike has had articles published in national newspapers and magazines as a freelance writer.  He wrote for the New Zealand Woman's Weekly in Dunedin for several years, and had articles published in the Sunday Times and Southland Times. He has also had articles published regularly in the leading export newspaper, Export News, published in Christchurch, and the specialised, high-technology magazine, Electronics Today, published in Auckland.

1979-1991
Journalist, Evening Post, covering all aspects of daily journalism, including news, sport, and feature writing. Mike was noted for his accuracy, lucid style, excellent command of language and sensitivity to and comprehension of a subject.
1978-79
Press officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, writing a publicity strategy for the Pacific.
1977-78
Press officer, Ministry of Health, writing speeches for high ranking health officials, including the  director-general and Minister of Health, and heads of departments. Mike also hosted press conferences and handled media liaison for the ministry. He learned how to cater for the publicity needs of a large organisation in this role.
1973-75
Student, Bachelor of Arts, Massey University, majoring in English literature (including papers in History, Classical Literature and German). Degree awarded 1976.
