Biographical Note

With 13 years experience in the media bizzo I am a copywriter, freelance writer and communications consultant.

I've worked across pretty much all media, including print, web, TV and radio as a journalist and producer, production manager and director. In New Zealand I've worked for Radio New Zealand, Newstalk ZB and TV3, while on my requisite OE I worked for BBC World TV and Reuters TV in London. Boy, they were good times.

Home again, and now with a family, I like to take things a little slower. For the past four years I've been working primarily in communications and copywriting, accented by freelance writing when I find a great story and have the chance to tell it. While I have published some stories under my own byline, I've written dozens under the name of others, or with no byline. Still, it's writing, and that's what I love!

I love writing about people and their ideas, but I also love simplifying messages and explaining concepts. I have supplied copy for countless social marketing projects and other public education campaigns, writing editorials, advertorials, articles, media releases, brochures, web content and TV scripts.

I'm very keen to get a bit more creative and try my hand at advertising copy and more persuasive wordsmithing. Always looking for that new string to my bow!

Despite not hailing from a farm, I seem to have written an awful lot about the primary sector, particularly agriculture and forestry. I can name more varieties of grass than most normal people know exist.... I'm counting that as a positive.

As for what my passions are - that would have to be food and cooking. But my sphere of knowledge is much wider than that because, to be impart and explain a concept, I have to become an expert in no time at all. And that's what I've always loved about working in journalism - you seriously do learn something new every day.

At the moment, among other bits and pieces, I am writing a book about child abuse, commissioned by The Institute of Child Studies, which is a charitable trust based in Hamilton that trains people how to recognise and respond to child abuse.
