She has twelve years’ experience as an editor and writer.

Kate is skilled at making complex material accessible to its intended audience. She writes, edits and proofreads strategic plans and reports, policy documents, submissions, manuals, teaching materials, magazines, bulletins, brochures, books, newsletters, web sites and dissertations.

Scientific and technical
Kate uses her background in science to help her transform complex texts into versions that are clear and easily understood. She is the author of three horticulture text books, widely used in New Zealand secondary schools. Other projects have included compiling a Grower and Packhouse Quality Control Manual for ENZA International; providing a one-semester course on library studies for the Eastern Institute of Technology; and editing conservation and heritage manuals for the Antarctic Heritage Trust.

Local government and business
Kate facilitates the compilation and writing of strategic plans and policy documents, an example being the Hastings District Libraries’ Strategic Plan 2005-15. She has edited various Auckland City documents, making complex regulations accessible in plain English, including those in the St. Helier's Village Centre Plan, the Onehunga Town Centre Design and Landscaping Guide, and the Hauraki Gulf Islands District Plan Review.

Kate is a long-standing copy editor for Your Trading Edge (an Australian bi-monthly magazine for traders and investors - www.yte.com.au) and a proofreader for The Sheet (daily email bulletin for the banking profession - www.thesheet.com.au).


Published Writings

Kate is author of 'Growing Plants' 1 and 2, and 'Growing Plants for NCEA Level 1' (Heinemann). She has recently led the design team for 'Come and See' (Joy Cowley: Pleroma.) Kate writes and edits web content. A recent example is www.teltech.co.nz.
