Following an extensive journalism career working in newspapers, radio and television, Jane moved into public relations, delivering strategic communications solutions to clients in both the public and private sectors across a diverse range of industries and organisations. In 1991 she established her own business as a freelance writer, editor, communications consultant, and media trainer. After seven years in Wellington, New Zealand, she relocated to Melbourne, Australia for ten years, returning to live in New Zealand in 2008.
In Melbourne, Jane's clients included BHP Billiton Petroleum and the Royal Children's Hospital, and she continued delivering media training programmes to a broad range of private and public sector clients throughout Australia as a contractor for two Melbourne-based media training/crisis management providers.
Clear, concise writing has always been at the core of Jane's work. Projects have included strategic communications plans, media releases, internal communications resources, newsletters, editing and proof reading, profiles, briefing documents, backgrounders, Q & As, web content, feature articles, company histories, scripts, re-working technical articles for a general audience, and tidying up translated documents.
She understands the needs and decision-making processes of news organisations, and her consultancy experience means she appreciates the importance of deadlines, time-keeping, budgets, reputation management and the need for a return on investment.
