Biographical Note
Gavin’s journalistic experience includes more than two decades on daily and weekly newspapers in England and New Zealand. He has been a news and court reporter, sub-editor and award-winning chief sub-editor in England; and sports editor of a metropolitan daily and assistant editor of a Sunday paper in New Zealand.

Gavin followed his newspaper career with a long, self-employed editorship of Contractor, the monthly magazine for the civil-construction industry, which led in 2001 to his receiving life membership of the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation and the president’s award from the New Zealand Heavy Haulage Association.

He still contributes to the magazine as editor-at-large, and as a freelance has in the past carried out contract editorial work for the New Zealand Shipping Corporation, national electricity-grid operator Transpower, the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the New Zealand Construction Industry Council.

Gavin’s lengthy self-employment and newspaper experience at a high executive level mean he is a self-starter who can write, rewrite and edit fast and accurately under pressure. He has the ability to tailor articles to a given length without sacrificing balance, fairness or meaning. He has a wide general knowledge and has been a lifelong student of current affairs. He is, above all, skilled in all facets of journalism, from interviewing (where he uses shorthand) to newspaper and magazine layout and design.

Gavin believes implicitly in bringing integrity to all his work, and greatly values his ability to relate to and communicate well with people from all backgrounds. He has never let a client down.
