Biographical Note
Journalism - Consulting Editor with a Bengali magazine and newspaper group, Ekdin. Writes a weekly column as well as feature articles and news reports on politics, society and culture. Also writes in English for Indian and international newspapers, magazines and websites.
Worked with Calcutta-based ABP Group from 1982-92, lastly as a senior writer; features editor with North East Times (1992), Amrita Bazar Patrika Group (1992-94), Pratidin (1994-95) and Drishtibhongi (1995-99).
Creative Writing – Written two novels and a number of short stories in Bengali
Research – Associated with international essay providers and media organizations since 2003. Writes academic essays and feature articles on literature, media, politics, sociology, history, films and theater.Completed projects on India’s international relations for a Delhi-based think-tank, Security and Political Risk Analysis (SAPRA), Delhi during 2000-2002.
Provided research input for the television show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal on Star World in 2002.
Provided research and concept for the BBC documentary, Chasing the Rains in 1990
Academic Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in Science from Calcutta University;3-year diploma course in French language at Alliance Francaise.
Fellow of the Journalistes en Europe fellowship by the European Community during 1986-88 for advanced studies in mass communication at the University of Sorbonne, Paris.
