NZ Writing Services
I provide writing, editing and consultation services for organisations, including local government.
Local Availability: Nelson region, and throughout New Zealand on request.
I have worked as both a journalist and as a policy planner in the local government sector. I particularly enjoy using my writing skills to communicate complex issues, and am experienced in researching legislation and other technical documents.
After completing a BA (Hons) in English Literature, I gained a Diploma in Journalism and wrote for the Hamilton Press. I then worked at Nelson City Council on environmental policy issues for 19 years where I managed the submission process for the Nelson Resource Management Plan, assisted with the writing of the Nelson Regional Policy Statement and then worked as a policy planner in the areas of freshwater management, climate change issues and bylaws.
During my employment in the local government sector I also edited a number of state of the environment reports and co-ordinated the publication of a Living Heritage native plant guide.
I have a Diploma in Environmental Studies, a Diploma in Book Editing, Proofreading & Publishing, and a Graduate Diploma in Creative Writing. I have co-authored two novels with my husband.
I have edited a wide range of technical documents including annual plans and annual reports, both for the local government sector and for private clients.
Since becoming self-employed I have become fascinated with effective writing for the web. I have set up my own websites and blog regularly at www.nzwritingservices.com and www.writingforcouncils.co.nz. I have also provided website content for local government.
Articles in newspapers from 1992-1994 in the Hamilton Press

- Nelson Freshwater Plan Change, operative in 2008
- Control of Dogs Bylaw, adopted by Nelson City Council in 2013
- Urban Environments Bylaw, adopted by Nelson City Council in 2015.
I provided writing support for the Infrastructure Strategy, adopted in 2015 (Tasman District Council).
I co-ordinated the preparation of Living Heritage – Growing Native Plants in Nelson in collaboration with the Department of Conservation, jointly published by Department of Conservation and Nelson City Council in 2002.
- The Driftwood Seekers, a novel by D Bradley (Debra and Dean Bradley), published in 2004 by National Pacific Press
