Caroline is an experienced and qualified publishing professional, who has a passion for writing, editing and proofing to ensure the copy is interesting, lively and, most importantly, in plain English and easy to understand.
Her experience ranges from working as a journalist on a weekly newspaper and covering a wide range of news and features stories, to editing a 28-page full colour magazine on environmental issues. More recently she has been working as a proofreader and copy editor for book publishers in New Zealand.
Caroline can work within all aspects of the publishing process, from initial concepts and ideas, through to writing and editing, as well as liaison with graphic designers and printers.
She qualified with a National Certificate in Journalism in the UK in 1992, and graduated with a BA (Distinction) in Publishing from Napier University in Edinburgh in 2000.
Journalism services
Caroline is experienced in interviewing people from all walks of life, and can produce lively, readable and tight copy with over 10 years experience in working on weekly newspapers and magazines, she is capable of writing short, snappy stories, to lengthy feature articles.
Editing
As editor of an environmental magazine in Scotland for over 6 years, Caroline is experienced in both writing and editing scientific and environmental stories, with an emphasis on ensuring they are written to reach the correct audience. She can take technical and scientific jargon and turn it into text more suitable for a general audience, without losing its quality or meaning.
Proofreading
Most recently Caroline has been working with Nelson-based award-winning publishers Craig Potton Publishing on photography books copy-editing and proofreading.

The Orcadian - 1989 to 1994 - worked on weekly newspaper in Scotland, covering all aspects of news and feature writing. In 1992 was runner-up in Young Journalist of the Year in the Highlands and Islands.
