Biographical Note
Once a teacher, now a freelance writer and careers counsellor, Angela McCarthy has solid practical knowledge of her specialty writing areas of careers, employment and education. She is past editor of the New Hobsons Press Smart Start and Latitude seriescareer theme books for teenagers that included profiles on young working people and generic information on tertiary education and job seeking. There is nothing more inspiring than someone's personal story, she says.Angela has been freelance writing for 15 years. She was initially inspired to start writing while living in Rarotonga with her partner and two young children. She then moved back to Auckland and successfully completed the Auckland Institute of Technology's journalism course. She continues to freelance from her Auckland base, specialising in careers and education.
In the past six years, Angela has also gained a tertiary qualification in career counselling, and now has a portfolio career combining career counselling and freelance writing. She is a regular freelance contributor to the New Zealand Herald career and employment section, writing articles and profiles on jobs and career issues as well as research and writing on careers and employment for websites, such as Career Services and Te Pou. The combination of writing and counselling continues to provide variety, knowledge and new insights.
